Little Thing of the Month: Experience

It's been just a few thousand years since I moved out of my home. At least, that's what it feels like. But this feeling comes nothing close to my first experience away from home. Do you remember the very first time you were you were away from home?

For me, it wasn't the chills of the mountains that I faced nor the acrophobia, unlike most eleven-year-old kids. It was the fear of not having anyone beside me at night. Of course, the belief that I might be eaten by a bear over the night didn’t help. Regardless, I was the one narrating horror stories to my friends in the camp.

Although it wasn't my first time traveling, it was my first time realizing that travel is not always as comfortable as our parents make it seem. At the spoon- feeding age of eleven, I got a glimpse of what the real world looks like- pretty uncomfortable, but beautiful none-the-less. I yearned to feel that way again once my trip ended.

Comfort is overrated. None of my best memories are from lousing on my couch. "Travel isn't always pretty. It isn't always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts. It even breaks your heart. But that's okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind," words to live by.

This is not a travel blog (oh it could be!). But I'm just more interested in knowing what experiences travel brings to us.
